What Best Odds Guaranteed actually means
Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) is the simplest good deal in racing. You take an early or board price on a horse or greyhound. If, by the off, the Starting Price (SP) is bigger than the price you took, the bookmaker pays you out at the bigger odds. If the SP is shorter, you keep the better early price you already had. It only ever moves in your favour — a genuine one-way, only-upside perk.
That is why BOG is worth seeking out. Prices drift and shorten all day; without the guarantee, taking an early price is a gamble on the market. With BOG, an early price becomes a floor — you can lock in value in the morning knowing the SP can only improve, never worsen, your return. There is no opt-in at any book here; it is applied automatically to qualifying racing bets.

A BOG payout, worked through
Back at 4/1, SP returns 6/1
You back a horse at 4/1 with a £10 stake at 9am. Prices drift through the day and it goes off at a Starting Price of 6/1. Because Best Odds Guaranteed applies, the bookmaker settles your winning bet at the bigger 6/1, not the 4/1 you took — so you collect £60 plus your £10 stake instead of £40 plus stake. That £20 extra is BOG doing its job.
Had the horse shortened to 3/1 instead, you would simply keep your original 4/1. The guarantee never pays you less — it only ever pays the bigger of your early price and the SP. Caps apply at some books (betTOM and 36 Vegas cap BOG winnings at £100 per bet), so check each operator’s BOG terms.

SP comes in bigger?
If the Starting Price is larger than your early price, BOG upgrades you to the bigger odds automatically.
Paid at the bigger price
Your winning bet settles at the larger odds (up to any per-bet cap). If SP is shorter, you keep your early price.
When BOG kicks in by bookmaker
Read it this way — the earlier BOG starts, the more of the day you have to take an early price before the market shortens.
