Matchbook Review: The Short Answer
What you need to know
- Matchbook is a betting exchange, not a bookmaker — you bet against other punters, not the house.
- Commission is 2% of net winnings for UK customers, against Betfair’s standard 5%.
- Matchbook Zero markets carry 0% commission and no margin at all.
- The welcome offer is Bet £20, Get £30, split across Exchange, Multiples and Bet Builder.
- Withdrawals land inside 12 hours, and the app rates 4.8 on iOS.
- Operator Triplebet Limited was fined £740,000 and had its UK licence suspended in 2020 over AML failures. It was reinstated and Matchbook has traded here since.
We spent over 15 hours on Matchbook across desktop and mobile — registering with our own money, backing and laying on the exchange, testing the Bet Builder and running a withdrawal end to end.
The regulatory section below comes from the Gambling Commission’s published decision. Got The Odds is fully independent; commercial partnerships never influence our ratings. Read our full review methodology.
Matchbook Overview
Matchbook launched in 2004 and is one of the longest-running betting exchanges available to UK punters. It is operated by Triplebet Limited, registered in Guernsey, and licensed by both the UK Gambling Commission and the Alderney Gambling Control Commission.
An exchange works differently to a bookmaker. You back or lay outcomes against other punters, and Matchbook takes a commission on your net winnings instead of building a margin into the price. Remove the margin and the odds get better.
The number that matters is 2%. That’s the UK commission rate, against Betfair’s standard 5%. On a £100 profit that’s £2 rather than £5 — and across a season of betting the gap compounds into real money.
The ownership tells you something too. Majority owner Zeljko Ranogajec is a professional gambler; Brentford owner Matthew Benham holds a minority stake. This is a platform built by people who bet for a living.
Is Matchbook Safe? Licence and Regulatory Record
Matchbook is operated by Triplebet Limited under Gambling Commission account 39504, from Millenium House, Olivier Street, Alderney, with an Alderney licence alongside it. One detail from the register is worth pausing on: Triplebet has held its Betting Intermediary — the exchange permission — since 1 November 2014, but its fixed-odds permission for real events only since 21 December 2023. That is why the Multiples and Bet Builder half of this welcome offer is a recent arrival rather than something Matchbook has always done. The platform has traded since 2004, uses SSL encryption and follows GDPR. Deposit limits, time-outs, reality checks, session limits and self-exclusion are all available, and it is registered with GAMSTOP.

There is one significant entry on the record, and it is a serious one.
- Feb 2020 UK licence suspended with immediate effect — the Commission halted Triplebet’s UK operation on 17 February 2020 while it investigated anti-money-laundering and social responsibility failings.
- Apr 2020 £740,000 fine — the Commission set out what it had found: one customer gambled around $2m across two days with no intervention, and a syndicate matched roughly $55m of bets over 18 months without a documented risk assessment. The investigation also found general failures around the top ten customers, including not recording their details, not verifying source of funds and not preparing risk profiles. The suspension was lifted once Triplebet demonstrated the required remedial measures, and Matchbook has traded in the UK since.
What this means for you. Customer funds were never the issue and Matchbook pays out — our own withdrawal cleared in hours. The failures were in the systems meant to notice unusual money and unusual behaviour.
Six years on, with a suspension served and remediation accepted, this is history rather than an open case. It is still worth knowing before you open an account, which is why it’s here. Regulatory record last checked 4 October 2026.
One last point about that record, because it changes how you should read any bookmaker review. Look up account 39504 on the register today and the regulatory-actions page reports none at all — the 2020 case has been aged off the listing. The penalty was real. The register simply does not keep older cases on display, so anyone telling you a bookmaker has a clean record on the strength of that one page is reading it wrong.
The receipt · what the register does and does not show
The regulatory-actions page for account 39504 states: “No regulatory actions have been recorded for this business.” The 2020 suspension and £740,000 penalty are nevertheless real — they are recorded in the Commission’s published enforcement reporting from that period. The Commission removes older cases from the register’s regulatory-actions listing, so an empty listing means no current entry, not an unblemished history.

Matchbook Welcome Offer & Promotions
How the Matchbook Welcome Offer Works
The offer is Bet £20, Get £30 in free bets, and it’s structured to make you try the whole platform rather than one corner of it.
You place two qualifying bets: £10 on the Exchange at odds of 2.00+, and £10 on a Bet Builder or Multiple at 3.00+ with at least three selections.
Within 72 hours of both settling, three free bets land — a £10 Exchange free bet, a £10 Multiples free bet and a £10 Bet Builder free bet.
| Offer Detail | Terms |
|---|---|
| Welcome Offer | Bet £20 Get £30 in Free Bets |
| Qualifying Bet 1 | £10 Exchange bet at odds 2.00+ |
| Qualifying Bet 2 | £10 Bet Builder or Multiple at odds 3.00+, min 3 selections |
| Free Bets Received | £10 Exchange + £10 Multiples + £10 Bet Builder |
| Credited | Within 72 hours of both qualifying bets settling |
| Minimum Deposit | £10 |
| Payment Exclusions | Skrill, Neteller and Paysafecard first deposits don’t qualify |
A 150% return on your qualifying outlay is competitive, and splitting it three ways is a fair way to show off an exchange to someone who has never used one.
Matchbook · Bet £20 Get £30
The best-shaped offer we have modelled
Three £10 free bets — one Exchange, one Multiples, one Bet Builder — credited within 72 hours of both qualifying bets settling. The stake is not returned.
At evens, £30 converts to about £15 — and the chance all three tokens lose is just 12.5%, the lowest of any welcome offer on this site. Three smaller tokens beat one big one every time: the expected value is identical, but the odds of walking away with nothing collapse. One adjustment to be honest about — the Exchange token pays 2% commission on its winnings, so the realistic figure is nearer £14.90 than £15.00. That is the only offer on this site where we have had to subtract commission, and it is still the best shape here. A free bet whose stake is not returned is worth stake × (d−1)/d at decimal odds d, because you keep the profit and not the stake — so it can never be worth its face value. The chance every token loses is (1 − 1/d) multiplied by itself once per token.
The trap is the deposit method. Fund with Skrill, Neteller or Paysafecard and you get nothing — use a debit card or a mobile wallet. See the full Matchbook offer terms, and our free bet explainer if you’re new to how stake-not-returned tokens work.
Existing Customer Promotions
Promotions rotate with the sporting calendar rather than running constantly. Enhanced Specials — pre-built combinations at boosted prices — appear around major football, boxing and darts events.
Racing gets attention at the festivals: Cheltenham, Royal Ascot, the Grand National. There are occasional football insurance offers and weekly free bets through the NFL season.
It’s a thinner calendar than QuinnBet’s 30-plus. That’s the trade: an exchange delivers value through pricing and low commission rather than through a busy promotions page.

Exchange Betting & Odds Quality
How the Exchange Works
On an exchange you can back an outcome — a normal bet — or lay it, betting that it won’t happen. Another punter takes the other side.
Because no bookmaker margin is baked into the price, exchange odds usually beat anything a traditional sportsbook shows. You pay 2% of net winnings per market instead.
For anyone who consistently finds value, that structure is far cheaper over time than a margin you can’t see and can’t avoid.
Sports Coverage
Seventeen-plus sports: football, racing, cricket, tennis, golf, boxing, rugby, cycling, darts, snooker, esports, table tennis, NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and greyhounds. GAA, novelty markets and a new prediction-markets product have been added.
That’s tighter than the 30 to 40 at a major bookmaker. The philosophy is depth over breadth — the sports that are covered are covered properly.
Football Betting
Football is the strongest market. The Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Champions League all carry enough liquidity that decent stakes get matched quickly.
The pricing edge is most obvious on short-priced favourites, where a bookmaker’s margin bites hardest. The fixed-odds Bet Builder runs alongside for same-game multiples when you want a traditional bet.
Horse Racing
All UK and Irish meetings are covered, with prices up from the morning of race day and ante-post markets on the big festivals.
Matchbook Zero frequently applies to racing, which means the true market price at no cost whatsoever — no margin, no commission. That is not something a traditional book can answer.
Liquidity is solid on the bigger meetings but thinner than Betfair on a quiet midweek card. Worth checking before you plan a big stake.
Odds Quality
This is the whole reason to be here. With no margin in the price, exchange odds represent the market’s actual view rather than an inflated version of it.
On popular football and racing markets Matchbook is frequently the best price available anywhere in the UK. Take 2% commission off that and it still wins comfortably against a 5%-margin sportsbook.

Key Betting Features
Matchbook Zero
Selected racing and football markets carry a Matchbook Zero label. On those, you pay 0% commission against a zero-margin price.
That means the raw market price at no cost at all. No traditional sportsbook can replicate it, because even the sharpest bookmaker price has a margin inside it.
Cash Out and Trading
There is no single cash-out button. You close a position by placing the opposite bet — lay what you backed, or back what you laid.
It takes more understanding than tapping a button, but you control the price you accept and you can close part of a position while leaving the rest running. More work, more control.
Bet Builder
The Bet Builder is fixed-odds and separate from the exchange, working like a traditional same-game accumulator. Combine goalscorers, corners, cards and totals from one match into a single price.
It’s available on the major leagues pre-match, and it’s what makes Matchbook usable as an everyday account rather than a pure trading platform.
Matchbook Deposits & Withdrawals
Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Skrill and Neteller are all supported, with instant deposits from £10. Withdrawal speed is a genuine strength — funds inside 12 hours, where plenty of traditional books take days.
| Payment Method | Min Deposit | Min Withdrawal | Withdrawal Time | Fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | £10 | £10 | Within 12 hours | Free |
![]() | £10 | £10 | Within 12 hours | Free |

![]() | £10 | £10 | Within 12 hours | Free |
![]() | £10 | £10 | Within 12 hours | Free |
One thing to get right: first deposits by Skrill, Neteller or Paysafecard do not qualify for the welcome offer. Use a debit card or Apple Pay to fund the account, then use e-wallets freely afterwards.
Matchbook Mobile App
The app is genuinely one of the best in the UK market — 4.8 on the App Store, 4.6 on Google Play. Those aren’t numbers you often see on a betting app.
Everything from desktop is there: exchange betting, Bet Builder, promotions, deposits and withdrawals. Quick-access tabs sit along the bottom for Exchange, Menu, My Bets, Multiples and Promotions.
The neat touch is swiping between back and lay odds, which keeps a genuinely complex interface uncluttered on a phone. It loads fast and bets place cleanly.
Matchbook Customer Support
| Support Channel | Availability | Response Time (Tested) |
|---|---|---|
| Live Chat | 9am–2am daily | 2–3 minutes |
| 24/7 inbox | Within 4 hours | |
| Callback | During support hours | Varies |
Seventeen hours of daily cover via chat, email and a callback option. Agents handled exchange-specific questions properly, which matters — these are more technical than standard sportsbook queries.
It isn’t 24/7, and if something goes wrong at 4am you’re waiting. For most punters, most of the time, it’s more than enough.
Who Matchbook Is For
- You bet enough that 3% of commission difference against Betfair actually adds up
- You want the best available price on football and racing more than you want features

- You want your winnings back the same day
- You bet mostly on your phone — the app is exceptional
- You want to watch and bet on one screen — nothing is streamed
- You bet niche sports or small meetings, where liquidity thins out
- You want a busy promotions page. QuinnBet runs 30-plus offers

- A 2020 licence suspension is a dealbreaker regardless of remediation
Matchbook Sister Sites
Triplebet Limited also operates easyBet, the easy Group betting brand, on the same exchange engine and the same liquidity pool. The register makes the link explicit: account 39504 carries both matchbook and easybet as active trading names, with http://www.matchbook.com listed as Active and http://www.easybet.net as White Label.
Practically, that means the underlying odds are near identical — easyBet is a simpler front end on the same market. The 2020 regulatory record above applies to the operator, so it covers both brands.
Sharing a licensee also means responsible-gambling settings generally apply across both. GAMSTOP covers every UK-licensed site at once.

The 2% commission is the argument. Against Betfair’s 5%, you keep meaningfully more of every winning bet — and on Matchbook Zero markets you keep all of it.
Betfair answers with wider sports coverage, streaming and deeper liquidity on the fringes. Bet365 has the most features and the most sports, but you pay for that convenience in the price of every bet. Compare the field in our bookmaker reviews.
Matchbook FAQs
Is Matchbook safe and legit?
Matchbook is licensed and legitimate. It is operated by Triplebet Limited under a UK Gambling Commission licence and an Alderney licence, has traded since 2004, uses SSL encryption and is registered with GAMSTOP. Its UK licence was suspended in February 2020 and Triplebet was fined £740,000 in April 2020 over anti-money-laundering and social responsibility failures. The suspension was lifted once remedial measures were in place and Matchbook has operated in the UK since.
Why was Matchbook’s operator fined in 2020?
The Gambling Commission suspended Triplebet Limited’s UK licence in February 2020 and fined the company £740,000 that April. Investigators found anti-money-laundering and social responsibility failures: one customer gambled around $2m over two days without intervention, and a syndicate matched roughly $55m of bets across 18 months with no documented risk assessment. The Commission also found failures around Matchbook’s top ten customers, including not verifying source of funds or preparing risk profiles.
What commission does Matchbook charge?
Matchbook charges UK customers 2% commission on net winnings per market, with no commission on losing bets. International customers pay 4%. Selected racing and football markets carry the Matchbook Zero label, which means 0% commission and a zero-margin price. Betfair’s standard rate by comparison is 5%.
What is Matchbook Zero?
Matchbook Zero is a feature offering 0% commission and zero margin on selected horse racing and football markets. When a market carries the Zero label you get the raw exchange price at no cost at all — no built-in margin and no commission deducted from winnings. No traditional bookmaker can match it, because every sportsbook price contains a margin.
What is the Matchbook welcome offer?
New customers can claim £30 in free bets at Matchbook. Place a £10 Exchange bet at odds of 2.00 or bigger and a £10 Bet Builder or Multiple at 3.00 or bigger with at least three selections. Within 72 hours of both settling you receive a £10 Exchange free bet, a £10 Multiples free bet and a £10 Bet Builder free bet. First deposits by Skrill, Neteller or Paysafecard do not qualify.
How long do Matchbook withdrawals take?
Matchbook withdrawals are typically processed within 12 hours across debit cards, Apple Pay and e-wallets, which is considerably faster than most traditional bookmakers. No withdrawal fees are charged. KYC verification must be complete before your first payout.
How does Matchbook compare to Betfair?
Matchbook charges 2% commission against Betfair’s standard 5%, so winning bettors keep more of their profit. Betfair offers broader sports coverage, live streaming and deeper liquidity on niche markets. Both are UK Gambling Commission licensed exchanges, and Matchbook’s app rates slightly higher on iOS at 4.8 versus 4.6.
Does Matchbook have a mobile app?
Matchbook offers apps for iOS and Android, rated 4.8/5 and 4.6/5 respectively — among the highest-rated betting apps in the UK. Both provide full exchange and Bet Builder functionality including in-play betting, deposits, withdrawals and promotions, with a swipe gesture to move between back and lay prices.
Who owns Matchbook?
Matchbook is operated by Triplebet Limited, registered in Guernsey and trading since 2004. The platform is majority-owned by professional gambler Zeljko Ranogajec, with Brentford FC owner Matthew Benham holding a minority stake. Triplebet also operates easyBet, the easy Group betting brand, on the same exchange engine.

Verdict · tested with real money
Matchbook
4.3 / 5
Matchbook is the sharpest account a UK punter can hold. The 2% commission undercuts Betfair by more than half, and Matchbook Zero removes the cost entirely on selected markets — something no traditional bookmaker can answer.
The odds are consistently among the best available anywhere. The app is genuinely excellent rather than merely adequate. Withdrawals land in hours, not days. For value-conscious bettors who understand an exchange, this is close to the best available.
The limits are predictable. Seventeen sports, no streaming, and liquidity that thins out on quiet cards. Support stops at 2am. And backing-and-laying takes learning if bookmakers are all you’ve used.
The 2020 suspension deserves weight too. It was serious, and it’s fair to know about it — equally, it was six years ago, the suspension was served, and the platform has traded here cleanly since.
Use it as a primary account if you bet football and racing regularly, or alongside a traditional book for the prices. Either way the commission saving is real and it compounds. If you’re exchange-curious but want something simpler to start with, easyBet runs the same engine behind a friendlier front end.
