Who Owns Your Bookmaker? UK Sister Sites, Owners and Fines
Britain has dozens of betting brands and barely a dozen companies behind them. We mapped every brand to its owner, then added up what those owners have paid in Gambling Commission penalties.

Eight years of enforcement
Penalties in this dataset run from 2018 to 2026. The two largest, against Entain and William Hill, landed within seven months of each other.

The record penalty until William Hill’s the following year. The Commission warned that further serious breaches would make losing the licence “a very real possibility”.

Three customers deposited £14,585 in 28 days, £18,884 in six months and £34,280 in five and a half months, none of them subject to money-laundering checks.
Gamesys was also required to undergo a third-party audit of its anti-money laundering and safer gambling controls.

One customer exceeded a daily deposit limit of £3,340 on 12 occasions in 14 days. The operator’s response was four automated pop-up messages and no human contact.
Imposed after a review of the company’s operating licence, with a warning and a licence condition requiring a third-party audit. It was the second time Spreadex has faced enforcement action.

Why it matters
- Self-exclusion may not travel. The Commission fined Entain partly because a customer shut an account with one brand and opened another with a sister brand the same day. Blocking yourself with an operator directly is not the same as GAMSTOP, which does cover every site licensed in Great Britain whoever owns it.
- Shopping around may not be shopping around. Two brands on one platform frequently publish the same prices, so opening the second account wins you nothing.
- One account can mean one account. Some shared-licence brands permit a single account across the whole group. Signing up at the sister site can breach the terms and void a bonus.
- Your bank statement gives it away. Bet with Ladbrokes, Coral, Foxy Bingo or Gala and the descriptor reads LC International Limited either way. One company, one line on the statement, eleven logos.
- Limits and closures travel even when your money does not. If a group restricts your account, expect that decision to follow you across its brands.
- “New customer” means new to the company. A welcome offer at a sister brand is often not available to you, and finding out after you deposit is the expensive way.

How this was put together
- Ownership comes from each company’s own published brand list or its corporate record. Every company links to its source.
- Licence clusters come from the Gambling Commission’s public register, with the licence number printed so you can look it up rather than take our word for it.
- Penalties are fines and regulatory settlements reported by the Commission and in contemporaneous coverage. Each is attributed to the company that owned the licensed business at the time it was penalised — William Hill’s 2023 penalty sits with evoke because evoke had already bought it in 2022.
- This is not the full enforcement register. It is the penalties we could verify individually. A penalty of zero on this page means we found none, not that none exists.
- Owning a brand and licensing one are different things. Brands marked white label are owned by an outside company but run on somebody else’s licence and platform. talkSPORT BET is a radio station’s brand on BetVictor’s licence, and the map keeps that distinction.
- Ownership moves. Kindred passed to FDJ in 2024, 888 became evoke, BoyleSports was put up for sale in 2026. Every entry carries the date we checked it.
